Apeldoorn

The green and generous capital of the Veluwe

Apeldoorn is known as the green and generous capital of the Veluwe. Traditionally, Apeldoorn has always been a place where people come to relax and enjoy nature. The Dutch royal family settled here, which is why you will find the world-famous Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn.

The greenest city in the Netherlands

Apeldoorn and nature are inextricably linked. In terms of surface area, the city ranks number one on the list of the greenest cities in the Netherlands. Green living is part of the DNA of this city, which has more than 162,000 residents. It is the ideal base for walking, cycling and exploring the surrounding area.

At the same time, we continue to strengthen Apeldoorn’s green character through sustainable housing, businesses, education, mobility and policies, ensuring that it remains a pleasant place to live, work and enjoy leisure time in the future.

A generous range of leisure activities

During the summer months, the city comes alive with numerous festivals and outdoor events. These range from the Dragon Boat Festival along the banks of the canal to the country’s largest open-air film festival in Berg & Bos city park.

Apeldoorn also hosts a variety of major national and international events, including the European Athletics Indoor Championships, the Volleyball Nations League, the FEI Driving World Championship for Pairs, DE OPENING of the cultural season and, of course, the UCI Junior Track World Championships in 2025.

In addition, Apeldoorn offers a wide range of leisure attractions, including Apenheul Primate Park, CODA Museum, children’s amusement park Julianatoren and the Kröller-Müller Museum, located in the heart of De Hoge Veluwe National Park: Apeldoorn’s backyard.
